Where Does Your Site Rank?

Where Does Your Site Rank?

I was recently on a conference call with a client, and we were discussing current and future strategy for their web properties. As always, we also talk about site rankings and traffic, and their relative positioning compared to other sites/competitors in the space.

As I've mentioned in earlier posts, we consistently compete with and out-rank other sites in the same spaces that have significantly higher budgets. Sometimes I come across clients that are paying way more for services that might look pretty, but are missing some key elements. There are many "SEO Companies" out there that can produce slick images, designs and generic content, but there are ingredients we bring to the table that simply don't compare. Not only are we very reasonably priced, but we provide customized strategies that go beyond just basic content, SEO and social media to help increase the overall online visibility your company, product or service. Of course, there are also plenty of things we don't do, so we're happy to work in a collaborative effort with other service providers or agencies to develop and execute the best overall plan for each client within their budgetary guidelines.

We recently completed a 2 year consulting agreement with a start-up that resulted in their ranking highly on the first page for a slew of their most desired keyword phrases. Not only that, but we worked with their in-house people and other vendors to consult with them on many strategic and tactical moves. If they continue with these things, they'll be able to maintain their positioning and stay atop their competitors in the search engine rankings.

Another thing to watch out for with many SEO companies is how they evaluate your keywords and what performance measures are in place regarding them. Some companies will pick words and phrases that may appear great, but doe they result in more clicks/calls/sales? In other words, what's the real end game? Ranking in and of itself for some seemingly good keywords isn't the real goal for most people, and higher traffic numbers without conversion isn't that good, either. It is important to know how to reach your ideal customer and get them to take action.

Increase Your Organic Search Traffic

At Catton Communications, our simple yet proven SEO methods continue to deliver results for our clients. Here is an example of one client who has been with us for more than a year. We have increased this website's organic search traffic substantially - 388% in 12 months!

This is just one example though, and results certainly vary. However, each site we work on improves its rankings over time, and organic traffic isn't gone when the budget runs out (unlike paid traffic).

Developing Effective Strategies for Small Businesses

smallbusinesspromotionThere was a great article on Search Engine Watch a couple of months ago that discussed the state of SEO and small businesses. It is absolutely true that the old ways of optimization are not only less effective, but many are now considered harmful practices.

The main thing that hasn't changed is that routine, quality content is still essential. Many small businesses have indeed become frustrated when trying to compete with larger companies online, but it just means they have to work smarter. Many of the changes Google has implemented in recent years have actually made it a more level playing field in many ways, despite seemingly creating unfair disadvantages in others.

We have seen great results with our clients. Some of these compete on national scales against large companies with huge online marketing budgets, while others have been able to steadily increase their online presence in their locations.

We don't promise the moon and we don't over-charge or claim to have any particular secrets. Our methods do work though and fully align with webmaster guidelines. However, it does require participation on the part of the small business. We need to know what's new and happening in your company as well as any feedback from customers or clients. When the entire premise is about communications, then it essential to also communicate to people sharing your messages in the digital world.

If you're looking to change up what you're doing to promote your business online and the mobile marketing arena, contact Catton Communications to see how we can help you with our services. We can help you develop a marketing and promotion strategy in the digital space.
